TransCanada Hydro Northeast, operators of the Monroe Bridge (Dryway) and Fife Brook (Zoar Gap) sections of the Deerfield River have notified us that due to weather conditions, releases on those rivers have been reduced. Currently this only affects the planned schedule for Memorial Day Weekend, however if rain does not arrive this could continue.
The following is the text of the email from TransCanada: "Due to warm weather and the lack of rainfall flows on the Deerfield are now so low that it is impossible to stay within all aspects of the license. This morning we consulted with Vermont, Massachusetts, and U.S Fish and Wildlife agencies. An agreement was reached to continue all of the minimum flows on the river. This will require 4800 cfs to be passed from the Upper Deerfield Stations each day. This will maintain the releases at Fife Brook but it will restrict the releases scheduled for this weekend at #5 Dam. After consulting with the boating companies it has been agreed to decrease the #5 dam releases this weekend rather than cancel them. On Saturday and Sunday the releases will be three hours of 900 cfs. The releases both days will start at 10:00 and end at 13:00. I regret this is not what anyone desired but it is the best compromise that is possible with all the interested parties. Please help us spread the word to all the boating community. Thanks." |
